Kobe and Vanessa Bryant call off divorce, announce reconciliation

Pennsylvania readers may have read that Kobe Bryant, the NBA superstar, and his wife Vanessa are not getting a divorce after all. The couple has had a difficult time of things, dating back to 2003 when allegations of sexual assault involving another woman were pursued against the basketball star. While Vanessa stood by Kobe and the criminal charges were ultimately dismissed, it took an understandable toll on their marriage. Their on-again, off-again relationship took a turn for the worse in 2011 when Vanessa filed formal divorce proceedings by citing “irreconcilable differences.”

However, Kobe and Vanessa recently announced they have saved their marriage and will be getting back together. Perhaps fitting for a celebrity couple in this day and age, each relied on social media sites to tell their fans of their decision. Kobe used Facebook to announce the reconciliation, while Vanessa opted for Instagram.

Over the past decade there have been many reports of problems in their marriage. The couple met during the filming of a music video in 1999 when Vanessa was 18 years old. During their marital separation, there were numerous sightings of the couple together, and Vanessa frequently attended Kobe’s basketball games in Los Angeles. Their reconciliation now means that the still pending divorce proceedings will be dismissed.

Most married couples in Pennsylvania would admit that there are times when a marriage seems like a high wire act. Some couples ultimately decide to divorce, though not all of those proceedings result in the dissolution of a marriage. In the course of addressing the financial and emotional issues that inevitably accompany a divorce, some couples come away with the realization that their marriage is worth saving. In those instances, some may consider signing a postnuptial agreement to remove many of the financial issues that at one point appeared to doom a marriage that both parties subsequently decide to continue.
