Pennsylvania uses texting to remind parents to pay child support

The state of Pennsylvania considers texting to be a good thing, when it comes to child support that is. The state's Department of Human Services (DHS) uses text messages to remind parents when they may have missed a child support payment, to inform those in need of work of area job fairs and to provide other information that may be useful to the state's residents. This method of communication has proved successful and has increased child support collection by over 30 percent statewide.

Grandmother arrested in child custody ordeal

A 42-year-old grandmother who says she was simply taking her grandchildren to visit friends in Pennsylvania with her boyfriend was recently charged with kidnapping. A court in neighboring state apparently denied her child custody request not long before she allegedly took the children to Pennsylvania. However, the woman's boyfriend said she had the permission of the children's parents to take the children with her. The children involved include a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old.

Child custody in Pennsylvania and nationwide is legally a two-way street. Both mothers and fathers start out with equal rights when they get involved in child custody disputes or agreed custody arrangements. Although the spotlight most often falls on the struggles and achievements of the single mother, single fathers also exist, and they sometimes step forth to exert all or most of the parenting duties over their children.

Many people in Pennsylvania can attest to the fact that marriage is often difficult, even under the best circumstances. Add in small children, a stressful job, media speculation and a significant amount of travel, and the difficulties are often insurmountable. Many people decide that a divorce may be the best option for them. The wife of actor Jeremy Renner has recently filed for divorce after only a short marriage.
