Twins at the center of father's child custody battle

Non-custodial parents in Pennsylvania are most likely to be the fathers of the children. Many fathers feel like they have an uphill battle when fighting for child custody. The challenges one man in particular is facing in his child custody fight seem monumental, but he is doing all he can to bring his twins, a boy and a girl, into his family.

The mother of the twins became pregnant when she and the father had a brief relationship during a time when both were separated from other partners. At first, she denied he was the father and lied about having the twins' DNA tested to know for certain. She finally confessed to him when the babies were six months old.

As soon as the twins were born, the mother allowed two women -- close friends with familial ties -- to take them from the hospital to raise as their own in two separate households. The mother, however, showed up at the house of one of the women with police and a representative from an adoption agency to take the boy away. The woman was so upset she contacted the father and told him the truth.

The father is now trying to get DNA from both children to prove he is the father, and he has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money to hire a lawyer to represent him in his fight. He has a record and a history of prescription drug abuse, but he is sober and has regular assessments. With a steady job, a house, a fiancé and two other children, he hopes the court will see he would be a responsible father to both his babies.

A child custody battle on the part of any parent can be difficult. Before a judge makes a decision, there are many factors to consider. A family law attorney in Pennsylvania can help a parent in preparing a proposed custody plan to present to the court.
