Former “Teen Mom” continues child custody battle

Some Pennsylvania mothers know child custody battles can often be heart-breaking. Whereas it used to seem that courts always gave custody to the biological mother, recent years have shown their decisions favoring the best interests of the child as opposed to those of the adults involved. Jenelle Evans, star of MTV’s “16 & Pregnant” and “Teen Mom 2,” finally has a judge’s decision on the child custody battle waged with her own mother.

Jenelle relinquished full custody of her son, Jace, to her mother, Barbara, three years ago when she was battling a heroin addiction. Since then, she has celebrated sobriety from her addiction, has given birth to two more children and is getting married. She is ready to have all three children in her home.

Before the most recent court ruling, there was no official visitation schedule, and mother and daughter fought on the terms of their improvised visitation. Jenelle is happy for the moment, as Barbara has been ordered to allow Jace to visit his mother during the summer, at holiday celebrations and on the weekends. This move signifies optimism on Jenelle’s part that full custody of her son is within reach.

Parents who seek child custody often have to commit to waiting. It can be a long process with setbacks and hiccups along the way. However, focusing on the objective, obeying court orders and keeping the best interests of the children in mind can help the journey go as smoothly as possible. A Pennsylvania attorney who has experience in the area of family law will be able to help a parent develop sound strategies as he or she prepares to go to court.
