Prenup challenged in Cuoco-Sweeting divorce

by | Oct 30, 2015 | Divorce

Many Pennsylvania readers are familiar with the hit television show “The Big Bang Theory.” One of the stars of that show, Kaley Cuoco, was recently named one of the highest-paid actresses on television. She has also made recent headlines because of her personal life. The actress is in the midst of a divorce, and her husband appears to be challenging the couple’s prenuptial agreement.

Cuoco married Ryan Sweeting after just six months of dating. Even so, the couple signed a prenuptial agreement a month prior to the wedding. In her divorce filing, Cuoco mentions that the couple’s assets will be divided based on the terms laid out in that agreement. Even so, Ryan Sweeting is asking for spousal support. Sweeting is himself a wealthy man, as he is a professional tennis player.

If the matter goes to trial, many believe that Sweeting has a very poor chance of attaining spousal support. In order to challenge a prenuptial agreement, an argument must be made that the parties did not sign with a full understanding of the other’s financial status. Another common challenge involves circumstances under which one party was coerced to sign. That most often is the argument when there wass very little time between signing the document and walking down the aisle.

None of those issues seem to be present in this divorce case. It is possible that Sweeting is simply trying to convince Cuoco to agree to a settlement in order to keep the matter out of the courts — and out of the public eye. If the couple does in fact settle, there may be very few details available. If the case moves to court, “The Big Bang Theory” fans in Pennsylvania might learn a great deal more about the actress and her financial standing.
