Pennsylvania fathers learn of fight for equality in child custody

Pennsylvania divorced fathers who are trying to spend more time with their children may be interested to hear of a father who is fighting for his rights to share equally in the custody of his two young daughters. He recently attended a rally in support of making others aware of problems fathers face concerning child custody, child support and other types of family law issues. Child custody is the issue that means the most to him.

For a year after the divorce between him and his wife, they shared custody on an equal basis. It was his opinion that all was well with that arrangement. However, recently a judge changed the agreement to give him equal custody only during the months in the summer and just eight days each of the other months. His ex-wife is now asking for a reduction of his time in during the summer because she thinks the girls, ages three and four, are not ready to constantly be shuttled back and forth.

He does not understand the ruling of the judge or the action of his ex-wife. He feels that his daughters equate his love for them by the amount of time he spends with them, and they suffer when he is not there through no fault of his own. He plans to go to court himself in the near future to fight for equal custody to be restored.

Typically, child custody agreements favor the mother for both time and money. There are fathers, however, who do want to take responsibility for the children they have brought into the world. They love their children and just want to be a strong presence in their lives. Pennsylvania fathers who are facing the same uphill battle may want to consider the different opportunities available to them as they seek to spend priceless moments with their children.
