Many Pennsylvania custodial parents know how crucial it is to get financial support from their ex. Child support not only helps a child get the necessities of food, shelter and medical essentials, but sometimes there is enough to pay for private schools and extra-curricular activities. The estranged wife of actor Mike Epps is requesting a sizable amount of child support each month to provide for their two daughters.
Mechelle Epps says her soon-to-be ex, known for numerous acting roles, including the Hangover movies, has cut her off financially. He had apparently wanted her to concentrate on their family while they were married so she did not have an outside job. Now she claims she is too old at age 36 to be able to find a job. She has estimated his income to be around $3.5 million per year and is requesting just under $110,000 each month in support.
The breakdown of monthly costs include thousands of dollars for clothes, shoes and hair treatments for the girls, who are 10 and 12 years of age. The tuition for the private school they attend comes to $72,000 for the year, and she also includes in the total the money she pays her mother, who acts as a nanny to the girls. Although Epps filed for divorce early in 2016, the terms have not yet been finalized.
The amount of child support varies, depending on the economic status of the parents. The court will take into account the number of children and the income of both parents when settling on a monthly provision amount. An attorney in Pennsylvania will be able to advise a parent on the support laws specific to the state and to his or her particular situation.
