Father wants child support obligation terminated

When two Pennsylvania parents separate, the noncustodial parent is typically required to pay child support to ensure at least the basic needs of the child will continue to be met. Some of these parents refuse to pay the financial support, often causing the custodial parent to go to great lengths to secure the payments ordered by the court. One father has petitioned the court to eliminate the child support concerning his 14-year-old daughter.

The daughter became famous as the “Cash Me Outside” girl after an appearance on Dr. Phil’s talk show. From that one show, she became a social media sensation and has enjoyed significant financial gain from it. Should offers of her own television show develop into a reality, her financial portfolio could increase even more.

Her father has been making child support payments of $1,100 each month and is now requesting that the court allow him to stop paying. He feels that his daughter makes enough money now because of her celebrity status and that he should no longer be forced to financially support her. He also believes her mother is allowing their daughter to go down a self-destructive, out-of-control path and does not want to subsidize that. The girl claims her father never wanted anything to do with her until she attained her celebrity status and that he only wants money from her now.

It is the responsibility of both parents to provide for their children, whether those parents are together or not. Most of the time it takes the efforts of both parents to ensure the children have the foundation they need to become productive members of society. Those who are having problems in receiving or paying child support in Pennsylvania will want to find a family law attorney who will be able to explain the available options for their situation.
