Child support case for Miguel Cabrera gets ugly

The typical Pennsylvania divorced parents have entered into a child support agreement where the monthly payments by the noncustodial parent are enough to meet the basic needs of the child plus a little more, if his or her earnings allow. The support orders for highly-paid celebrities and others at the wealthy end of the financial spectrum often provide a substantially greater sum. Belkis Rodriguez, the former mistress to Miguel Cabrera and the apparent mother of two of his children is taking him back to court for an increase in the amount of child support he pays her each month.

Since the two children in question were born, Cabrera has paid Rodriguez at least $12,000 in support every month. She claims after buying her a nearly 4,000-square-foot house, he has cut that monthly stipend. She has filed a petition in court, asking for more money, as she says the amount he is currently paying does not cover the expenses of their needs. Under the laws of the state in which she resides and because of his financial assets, her lawyers say there is a possibility she could get as much as $100,000 each month.

Cabrera says Rodriguez is trying to extort money from him. He claims she has demanded to know how much he pays in expenditures for his wife and the children they have together and wants a comparable sum given to her. Not only has he requested paternity tests for the two children Rodriguez claims is theirs, but he wants any money over and above the needs of the children to be put in a college fund or a trust for them to have when they are older.

There are many aspects to a child support order, especially when great financial wealth is a factor. There are clearly a number of issues for the court to address, and it remains to be seen how these rancorous disputes will be resolved. Because of the intricacies of any child support case in this state, it is advisable to have a Pennsylvania attorney who has the experience and the knowledge to effectively represent his or her client.
