There is a lot in the news these days about arrests of non-custodial parents who have not paid child support. Custodial parents in Pennsylvania know how frustrating it can be when an expected payment is not received and the child has to go without something he or she may need or want. Via a fairly new tactic, at least to some circles of law enforcement, police were able to track down one father for non-payment of child support.
Police say they have tried to find the father for the last several years, as he is facing felony charges from not paying his ex enough child support. Although he made periodic payments over the last 11 years, he still owes just over $5,000. Toward the end of last year, police were able to locate the man out of state.
The sheriff of the county in which the father is facing charges stated in a report that, of all the resources available to them, Facebook has been invaluable in helping track down local fugitives. Once his office discovered where the father had been living, they sent a wanted poster through the social media outlet to the police department in that town. It took a few months but the man was finally arrested and extradited to his home state, with bond having been set around $16,000.
Thanks to the staggering popularity of the different social media networks, it can be easier than times past when attempting to find those parents who have tried to dodge their financial responsibility.
