Father arrested after child custody dispute

Pennsylvania parents may be interested to learn of a child custody dispute that ended in an arrest for one parent. The father of a 10-month-old boy is being held for criminal trespassing, but more charges may come in the near future. A report on the incident did not specify any conditions of a child custody arrangement between the boy’s parents.

The boy’s mother called police with complaints of harassment by the father. The two, who are no longer living together, had an argument at her house after he appeared with no advance notice. He went away, and she took the boy to her parents’ house. She left the boy in the care of his grandparents and went to the bar where she worked, even though she was not working that night.

The boy’s father caused a disturbance with repeated calls and visits to the bar while the mother was there. Police were called, and he was given a verbal warning that he apparently did not heed. At one point, he went to the mother’s parents’ house with the intention of leaving with the boy. The police were called again, and he was finally arrested.

Child custody agreements are created with the best interests of the child or children involved. There are times, however, when a parent does not adhere to the conditions of a custody agreement. For a parent to just show up and take a child could be considered kidnapping, especially if the child is taken to another state or another country. Those in Pennsylvania who feel the terms of their custody agreements have been violated should document those infractions and report them to the authorities.
