Scott Weiland's ex has child support request

Many custodial parents in Pennsylvania know how crucial it is to receive support payments for their children from their former spouse. Some even know how devastating a turn their particular circumstances can take when they do not receive the funds. The ex-wife of the late Stone Temple Pilots band member, Scott Weiland, says she now needs his estate to make her child support payments.

Mary Weiland and her ex-husband had two children during their seven-year marriage. At the time of their divorce in 2007, the judge ruled she would receive $4,000 each month in child support. She wants to continue receiving that amount, claiming the children, now teenagers, have no other means of financial support.

Although divorced, Mary was the executor of Weiland's estate and says his estate at the time of his death totaled over $1.5 million. Even after all debts were paid and with the addition of continuing royalties on his music, she says there is enough money to continue receiving the monthly sum. Weiland remarried in 2013, and while his wife made a legal attempt to get a large monthly sum from the estate based on a prenuptial agreement between the two, Weiland's first wife says the paperwork was not filed correctly and too much time has passed for a claim.

There are a variety of situations that might arise that could necessitate alterations to a child support arrangement. For a sound legal agreement, a person needs proper legal advice from a knowledgeable attorney. A Pennsylvania attorney familiar with the family laws of the state will be meticulous in constructing a comprehensive agreement that will meet the needs of the couple and their children.
